Frank N. Carpenter

Francis Newton Carpenter was born August 21, 1911 in New York to Lulu Forfar and Frank Carpenter. In Rye his family lived on Park Lane and were members of Christ's Church.

He was educated at Collegiate School in New York City, attended Williams College and received his BA degree from the University of Virginia.

Frank married Patricia Allen in Rye, New York, on October 21, 1939, when he was 28 years old.

Frank enlisted in 1944 and served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army upon successful completion of the officer candidate course at the infantry school of Fort Benning, Ga. He was inducted into the Army on Feb. 11, 1944 and served at Camp Blanding, Fla., before going to officer candidate school.

Frank would go on to serve as a captain in the 2nd Infantry Division during the war. The 2nd Infantry Division campaign participation credits include: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe. It spent 303 days in combat.


After the war, Frank was president of Shulton International and chairman and chief executive officer of Westey Associates.

He was active in retirement as president of the Gulf Stream Bath and Tennis Club, president of the Board of Trustees of Gulf Stream School, and a member of the Vestry of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was a former governor of the Apawamis Club in Rye, New York and the Gulfstream Golf Club, in Gulf Stream, Florida.

Francis Newton Carpenter - 95, of Delray Beach, Florida and formally of Greenwich, Connecticut passed away on November 27, 2006.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Barbara Hayward Carpenter, two daughters: Mrs. Patricia Carpenter Carey, Mrs. Hillary Carpenter Lynch, three sons: Mr. Edward Brewster Prindle, Mr. Francis Newton Carpenter, and Mr. Timothy Knowlton Carpenter, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service was held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 188 S. Swinton Ave, Delray Beach on Friday, December 1, 2006, An additional service and internment was held at Christ Church Greenwich, CT on Dec 8, 2006.
